Tron Legacy Review
I will start this review out by coming forth and firstly admitting that no, I have NOT seen the original Tron movie. Whether or not this tidbit of information completely disqualifies me from being an accurate reviewer of the movie SHOULD mean nothing to you because Disney very clearly stated that you would not need to see the movie in order to understand the second. the big lebowski Either way, stop reading right here if you believe otherwise. Tron legacy really pushed the envelope with the visual effects. I mean it really did. The visual effects are about as close to real magic as we are going to get in this day and age of modern 2010. Now, it goes without saying, that the visual effects were out of this world, however, the story and plot suffers tremendously. I must admit, through the beginning of the movie I was very entranced in the complicated story line, and although it was all highly unscientific I still went along with it, after all, what good sci-fi isn't. After about the first half, however, (this was after the highly energetic fight scenes, and the introduction to the VERY sexy randomly generated iso, Quorra played by Olivia Wilde) the story line got very drab, and Jeff Bridges character seemed more like The Dude from The Big Lebowski than the genius cyber world creator Kevin Flynn. Although the movie's script could have used a lot of tweaking, the cast did a wonderful job portraying what they could. The relatively unknown actor, Garrett Hedlund, did a pretty OK job playing an "I hate the world" teenager, and the CGI for the 1980's Jeff Bridges was awesome. In conclusion, and to be quite frank, the movie is definitely worth it if you are looking for beautiful special effects and a land of wonder with a lot of hot girls in tight, leather outfits. However, if you are looking for a deep and complex storyline that will help you answer the questions of your existence- Tron is definitely not for you. Either way, Enjoy the big lebowski!
